The electromagnetic wavelength of laser radiation ranges from long wavelength infrared (CO2 laser) range to near infrared (Nd laser: Yag, Nd:YVO4), visible light (Ne or argon) and invisible ultraviolet light (excimer laser).

Laser radiation is a non ionized radiation. In a INTEMARK laser, a crystal rod is stimulated by a "light pump" formed by a semiconductor laser to radiate photons. The photon continuously reflects between the front and rear mirrors of the resonant cavity.
